Two members of the North East Texas Tumblers traveled to Houston, TX last weekend to compete in the 2014 Level 6 & 7 Texas State Championships hosted by Cypress Academy of Gymnastics.   This competition featured over 700 of the best athletes from across Texas in Level 6 & 7.

The Friday evening session featured Level 6 athlete, Malana Power, competing in the Junior D1 age division.  Power began the competition on balance beam where she posted a very nice score of 9.55.  This score held the first place position in the competition until the last rotation of the 20 competitors when she fell to 4th place on the event.  She scored a 9.475 on bars that gave her a 2nd place finish.  She scored 9.15 on vault and 9.00 on floor to finish with a 37.175 and 5th place in the All-Around.

Kara Reaves returned to her gold medal run on balance beam with a 9.675 and was crowned the Texas State Beam Champion in the 14 + age division of the Level 7 competition.  She scored a 9.40 on vault for 17th place, 9.10 on floor for 19th place, and 8.75 on bars for 17th place in route to a 36.925 AA and  7th place overall.

The 7th place finish out of 39 athletes in her age division meant that Reaves qualified to compete in the USA Gymnastics Region 3 Level 7 All-Star Championships to be held on April 25-27 at the Galveston Island Convention Center in Galveston, TX.  The Region 3 Championships will feature the top athletes from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming.

  • EVAN DAMRON WINS FIRST MEN'S STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR NETT

    April 7, 2014 -

The North East Texas Tumblers Men’s Gymnastics Team traveled to Garland, TX to compete in the 2014 Level 4 North State Championships hosted by Texas Men’s USA Gymnastics.   This was the final competition of the 2013-2014 season and featured many of the best athletes from across the North Texas Area. The NETT boys were definitely up to the challenge.

Scoring in USA Men’s gymnastics follows more closely to the international rules where athletes have compulsory skills that they must perform but can also add additional skills to the routines to get bonus points.  Therefore, it is highly likely that the scores can get above the traditional 10.0 that most gymnastics fans have grown accustomed to over the years.

Evan Damron (8 yr old age division) led the NETT team with a score of 10.9 and a gold medal as the North Texas State Champion on the Parallel Bars.  He also scored a 10.60(3rd place) on Floor Exercise, 10.30 (10th) on High Bar, 9.7 (5th) on vault, along with a 10.50 on rings and 8.80 on Pommel Horse.  He finished with a 60.80 All-Around score for 7th place overall out of the 29 athltes in his age division.

Brent White (9+ age division) posted a season high 10.5 on rings for 3rd place and a 9.70 on vault for 5th place.    He also scored a season high 10.20 on High Bar for 8th place in route to a career high score of 58.60 in the All-Around for 9th place in his age division.

Andrew O’Neal (7 yr old age division) scored a career high 50.70 to finish strong in his first season of competition.

The Men’s Tumbler Team will continue to train hard during the summer and will begin the 2014-2015 competition season in September.
