Pre-School Classes

Our preschool program provides a fun and exciting way to get your child active and interested in gymnastics, tumbling, and cheerleading at a young age!  These classes are held in Texarkana’s only preschool room where all equipment is sized especially for little ones providing a safe and fun learning environment. Within the 60 minute classes your child will participate in activities such as stretching and warm up time, movement to music, rotations and obstacle course on floor, beam, trampoline, foam pit, bars, and vault, and group activities, as well as, age appropriate independent activities. Your child will also use props and manipulatives to learn gross and fine motor skills, perceptual development, balance and coordination, flexibility, shapes, colors, numbers, and more!!  These professionally planned classes are taught by a highly qualified and trained preschool gymnastics instructor.  Each class at North East Texas Elite Gymnastics is taught according to planned lessons each week to guide athletes through stages and progressions of gymnastics to ensure the safety of the athletes and coaches, as well as teach correct technique in preparation for future classes and skills.      

 

Parent and Tot:

Our Parent and Tot gymnastics classes are designed to get families moving together! This introductory gymnastics class is facilitated by a qualified preschool gymnastics teacher. This unique experience provides the parent or adult family member the opportunity to assists the child throughout the class activities.  Activities taught in this class are intended to provide a fun first gymnastics experience while teaching skills that will prepare the children for more advanced gymnastics classes, as well as preschool and elementary school criteria.      

Quick Facts:

  • Ages: walking - 3 years old who are not yet potty trained

  • Maximum 6:1 or 8:1 student teacher ratio

  • Class is available for boys and girls

  • At least one parent or adult family member must be present to assists the child throughout the class.  Both parents are encouraged and welcome to participate!

  • Example of activities:

    • Learning of introductory skills: listening and following directions, social skills and taking turns

    • Use of manipulatives to introduce basic gymnastics skills: walking down beam, hanging on bars, log rolls down cheese mat, jump on trampoline and up to mats

    • Learning of preschool and elementary school concepts: numbers, colors, shapes, alphabet

    • Beginner bstacle course

    • Parachute fun

    • Movement to music

  • What to wear: we recommend both child and parent(s) wear clothes suitable for moving around and being active participants.  

    • Girls: gymnastics leotards or form-fitting clothing, no socks, shoes or tights, hair pulled up out of their face, no jewelry, athletic cotton shorts are acceptable to wear please no blue jean shorts or shorts with zippers or buttons

    • Boys: form-fitting clothing, no socks or shoes, athletic cotton shorts are acceptable to wear please no blue jean shorts or shorts with zippers or buttons

  • Next stage of classes:  3 year old gymnastics class - any 3 year olds who are in the Parent and Tot class and are potty trained can be recommended to move up to the 3 yr old class in the middle of the semester as long as there is a spot available and they meet the criteria required to move to the class. This is at the discretion of the Parent and Tot coach and the 3 year old class coach.





3 year old and 4 year old Gymnastics:

These entry level classes designed for 3 and 4 year olds who meet the criteria to perform the gymnastics class independently. Throughout the class the students will continue to learn and perfect introductory skills and preschool/elementary criteria, as well as begin to learn the concepts of basic gymnastics skills.

  • Ages: 3 year olds who are potty trained and 4 year olds

  • Maximum 6:1 student teacher ratio

  • Class is available for boys and girls

  • Students perform class independently while receiving instruction from our certified gymnastics coaches; parents are welcome to stay and watch the class from our viewing area

  • Example of activities:

    • Perfecting introductory skills: listening and following directions, social skills and taking turns

    • Use of equipment and manipulatives to perform basic gymnastics skills: jumps down beam, holds and pullover on bars, forward and backward rolls down cheese mat, tuck and straddle jumps on trampoline and up to mats, cartwheels over mats, handstands on wall, and much more

    • Continued practice of preschool and elementary school concepts: numbers, colors, shapes, alphabet

    • Intermediate obstacle course

    • Parachute fun

    • Movement to music

  • What to wear:  

    • Girls: gymnastics leotards or form-fitting clothing, no socks, shoes or tights, hair pulled up out of their face, no jewelry, athletic cotton shorts are acceptable to wear please no blue jean shorts or shorts with zippers or buttons

    • Boys: form-fitting clothing, no socks or shoes, athletic cotton shorts are acceptable to wear please no blue jean shorts or shorts with zippers or buttons

  • Next stage of classes:  5 year old gymnastics class.  If a child shows advanced abilities they may be recommended to move into the 5 year old class early, if there is a spot available in the class.  This is at the discretion of the current coach and new class coach.  Students at this stage also could be recommended for the North East Texas Tumblers STARS Team Program.  This is a by-invitation or by-evaluation only option. Please note, because we strive to provide the highest quality gymnastics experience for everyone, if a student is unable to perform the 3 year old or 4 year old class without excessively interrupting or is simply not ready for the independent class they may be asked to spend a semester in the Parent and Tot class to review and perfect the introductory skills. They will be more than welcome to join the 3 or 4 year old class the following semester provided they have made improvements through the Parent and Tot program.

 

5 year old Gymnastics

Leap Frog classes are intended to provide a transitional period from moving out of the preschool program and into the school age program.  These classes begin in the preschool classroom where the students will be instructed through warm-up, movement through music, and a group activity.  For the last portion of the class the students will go into the “big gym” where they will have the opportunity to receive instruction on one of the Olympic events.  By doing this, the students are able to experience the school age setting while still receiving age appropriate instruction.

  • Ages: 5 years old

  • Maximum 6:1 student teacher ratio

  • Class is available for boys and girls

  • Students perform class independently while receiving instruction from our certified gymnastics coaches; parents are welcome to stay and watch the class from our viewing area

  • Example of activities:

    • Use of equipment and manipulatives to learn beginner/Level 1 gymnastics skills:  rolls and bear walks on beam,  glide swings and hip circles on bars, cartwheel and forward and backward rolls performed on the floor, kickovers on mats, jump half-turn and jump full turn on floor, balancing handstands, and much more

    • Opportunity to go into the big gym for practice on Olympic events

    • Advanced obstacle course

    • Movement to music

  • What to wear:  

    • Girls: gymnastics leotards or form-fitting clothing, no socks, shoes or tights, hair pulled up out of their face, no jewelry, athletic cotton shorts are acceptable to wear please no blue jean shorts or shorts with zippers or buttons

    • Boys: form-fitting clothing, no socks or shoes, athletic cotton shorts are acceptable to wear please no blue jean shorts or shorts with zippers or buttons

  • Next stage of classes: Level 1 Gymnastics class OR Beginner Tumbling class.  If a child shows advanced abilities they may be recommended to move into the Level 1 Gymnastics or Beginner Tumbling class early, if there is a spot available in one of these classes.  This is at the discretion of the Leap Frog coach and Level 1 Gymnastics/Beginner Tumbling coach.  Students at this stage also could be recommended for the North East Texas Tumblers STARS Team or Level 2 Team Program.  This is a by-invitation or by-evaluation only option. Information for the Level 1 Gymnastics and Beginner Tumbling classes are located under the School Age Classportion.

  • Additional information: Please note, for the first few classes of the semester it is up to the discretion of the instructor to decide whether to take the class into the big gym or finish out the class in the preschool room.  We want to give the students the opportunity to experience what it will be like in a school age class, but safety must come first.  If the instructor feels that the class is not quite ready to be in the big gym a discussion may be held with the students to explain the expectations of the big gym then the class can make a goal to go into the big gym the following week
